Privacy Policy
Aman (“Aman,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) helps you understand what’s happening around you by bringing public-safety information into one clear view. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to our website, apps, and the Amanix AI assistant (together, the “Services”).
Last updated: June 3, 2026 · Effective: June 3, 20261Scope & who we are
This Policy applies to personal information we process as the controller of the Services. The data controller is [Aman Legal Entity]. It does not apply to the underlying government and third-party records that Aman displays (for example, incident and registry records), which originate from the official sources described in our Terms and on the Data sources page. Those records are public information about third parties, not information we collect from you.
By using the Services, you acknowledge this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.
2Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account information — name or display name, email address, and a password or third-party sign-in identifier when you create an account.
- Saved places & alert preferences — addresses, pins, radii, and the layers and notifications you choose to follow.
- Community reports — notes, descriptions, categories, optional photos, and the location you attach when you submit a neighbor report.
- Amanix prompts — the questions and messages you send to the Amanix AI assistant.
- Payments — if you purchase a paid tier, our payment processor collects your billing details; we receive limited transaction data (such as the last four digits of a card and billing ZIP), not full card numbers.
- Support & communications — messages you send us and your survey or feedback responses.
Information collected automatically
- Device & technical data — IP address, device and browser type, operating system, app version, language, and identifiers.
- Usage data — pages and features viewed, searches, layers toggled, interactions, and timestamps.
- Approximate location — coarse location inferred from your IP address, and—only with your permission—precise device location to center your map and alerts.
- Cookies & similar technologies — see Cookies & tracking.
Information from other sources
We receive information from service providers (such as analytics, hosting, mapping, geocoding, and authentication partners) and, if you sign in with a third party, the basic profile information that provider shares. We also ingest public-safety datasets from official sources to power the Services — see Public records & registry data.
3Sensitive & location data
Precise geolocation is treated as sensitive information. We ask for it only when you enable it, use it to deliver the feature you requested (centering your view and watching your alert radius), and you can turn it off at any time in your device settings. Wherever practical, your saved places and alert radii are kept on your device and used to filter what you see, rather than continuously transmitted to us.
We do not use sensitive information to infer characteristics about you, and we do not sell it or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
4How we use information
- Provide, maintain, secure, and improve the Services and personalize your map, layers, and alerts.
- Send notifications you’ve requested (for example, activity inside your alert radius).
- Operate the Amanix AI assistant and answer your questions with source-backed context.
- Process transactions and manage subscriptions, free-tier eligibility, and account limits.
- Respond to support requests and communicate service, security, and policy updates.
- Detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, security incidents, and violations of our Terms.
- Analyze usage to understand and improve performance, reliability, and features.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our rights.
We may create de-identified or aggregated information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you and use it for any lawful purpose, including improving the Services. We will maintain and use such information in de-identified form and not attempt to re-identify it except as permitted by law.
5Amanix AI & your data
When you use Amanix, we process your prompts together with relevant Aman data layers to generate a response. We use prompts and conversations to operate the assistant, keep it safe and reliable, and improve our Services. We do not sell your Amanix conversations, and we do not use them to train third-party foundation models for their own purposes. Please don’t enter information you consider confidential or that identifies others unnecessarily. Amanix can be wrong or incomplete — see the Amanix terms and always rely on official sources for consequential decisions.
6Legal bases (EEA/UK)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we rely on these legal bases:
- Contract — to provide the Services you request and manage your account.
- Legitimate interests — to secure, analyze, and improve the Services, where not overridden by your rights.
- Consent — for precise location, certain cookies, and optional communications; you may withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation — to comply with applicable laws and lawful requests.
8Selling & targeted advertising
10Data retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes in this Policy — for example, for the life of your account and a reasonable period afterward — and as required to comply with legal, tax, accounting, security, and dispute-resolution obligations. We then delete or de-identify it. Community reports may persist in the Services after account closure in de-identified form.
11Data security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and monitoring. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Use a strong, unique password and keep your credentials confidential.
12Your rights & choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access or receive a copy of your personal information (portability).
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete your information.
- Opt out of sale, sharing for targeted advertising, or certain profiling.
- Limit use of sensitive information.
- Withdraw consent and unsubscribe from marketing.
- Not receive discriminatory treatment for exercising your rights.
To exercise these rights, email privacy@aman.app or use the in-app controls. We will verify your request (and an authorized agent’s authority) and respond within the time required by law. You may appeal a decision by replying to our response; if you remain unsatisfied, you may contact your state attorney general.
13U.S. state privacy disclosures
Residents of California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws have the rights described above. In the past 12 months we collected the categories of personal information described in Information we collect (identifiers, account and commercial information, internet/usage activity, approximate and—with consent—precise geolocation, and inferences), for the purposes in How we use information, and disclosed certain categories to the service providers and recipients in How we share information.
California “Shine the Light.” We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct-marketing purposes. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16.
14EEA, UK & international transfers
We operate in the United States, and your information may be processed there and in other countries with different data-protection laws. Where we transfer personal information out of the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, we use appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. EEA/UK users may lodge a complaint with their local supervisory authority and may contact our data-protection inbox at dpo@aman.app.
15Children’s privacy
The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. You must meet the age requirements in our Terms to create an account. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact privacy@aman.app and we will delete it.
16Public records & registry data
Aman displays public-safety records — including incident data and sex-offender registry information — sourced from government systems such as the FBI’s Crime Data Explorer and the U.S. Department of Justice NSOPW. These records concern third parties and are published by their official sources; Aman does not control their content or accuracy and timestamps each record’s source. Registry information is provided for public awareness and may be used only for lawful purposes — never to harass, intimidate, or unlawfully discriminate. See Lawful use of registry & public-safety data in our Terms.
17Third-party links & services
The Services may link to third-party websites and integrate third-party services. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, and we are not responsible for them. Please review those policies before providing information.
18Changes to this policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new “Last updated” date and, for material changes, provide additional notice as required by law. Your continued use of the Services after the effective date means you accept the updated Policy.
